Bishop Otubelu Juniorate Enugu wins NILDS National Quiz Competition

In a remarkable display of knowledge and skill, Bishop Otubelu Juniorate Enugu has emerged as the champion of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) National Quiz Competition, focused on the themes of Legislature, Democracy, and Governance. This prestigious event took place on the 31st of October, 2024, within the vibrant atmosphere of the PPSMB Hall.

The NILDS initiative aims to enhance education surrounding the legislative framework while expanding the understanding of students and youths regarding the historical context, operational procedures, and significance of the legislature. It also aims to foster a deeper comprehension of civic engagement and democratic governance. Ms. Stacey Igwe, the coordinator of the competition, highlighted the initiative’s goal to ignite a passion for politics among young participants, empowering them to take a proactive stance on issues about the legislature and democracy.

The competition saw participation from several states, with Enugu State proudly serving as the host. The competing states included Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, and Abia. The participants exhibited their knowledge and analytical skills as they navigated various challenging questions.

Abia State, represented by Adventist Technical College, secured an impressive second place, while Anambra State, with its representatives from St. Patrick’s College in Awka, followed closely as the third-place winner. The fourth spot was claimed by Ebonyi State, with Marist Comprehensive College in Ezzagu displaying commendable talent. Rounding out the competition, Imo State, represented by Model Secondary School, took fifth place.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education in Enugu State, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Patrick Ochi, inspired the contestants with his remarks. He encouraged all participants to strive for excellence and earn a Gold medal to elevate the pride of the Southeast region. He also reassured them of their safety and security throughout their time in Enugu State.
