The people of Obegu Community in Enugu south Local Government Area of Enugu state have raise an alarm over alleged constant arrest and harassment of their sons by the Nigeria Police force .
They also appealed to the Inspector General of police and Police Service Commission to intervene and save them from the hands of their alleged oppressors,
The community made the appeal when they stage a peaceful protest to demand immediate release of their kinsmen who were arrested on the order of Assistant Inspector of Police ,Criminal Investigation Department Annex Ikoyi Lagos over land related matters in Enugu.
They people said this was not the first time they were carrying out a peaceful protest to draw the attention of the government on intimidation, arrest and demolition of their ancestral home by a private developer, ,Private Estate International West Africa Limited PEIWA to take over about one thousand ninety seven hectres of their land now known as centenary city.
Addressing newsmen,the traditional ruler of the area Igwe Mich Nnukwu who spoke in an emotional laden voice said the community have never had any land transaction directly or indirectly with Private Estate International West Africa Limited and expressed shock how the company came with a drone and surveyed the whole of his community and started claiming ownership including his palace.
While the President General of the community Mr Mich Ogbonna narrated how the alleged land grabbers are using police to arrest them on trump up charges noting that his kinsmen sometimes would be arrested arraign in Abuja and its environs and sometimes dump them keffi or Suleja prisons.
Mr Ogbonna while chanting a solidarity songs said the alleged oppressors may have exhausted power in all the police formations and resorted AIG Force CID annex Lagos and question the jurisdiction of CID Lagos to affect arrest in Enugu over land matter if not intimidation.
Also speaking the traditional prime minister of Obegu community Chief Andy Egbo pointed out that the matter was already in court and wonder how the Managing Director PEIWA abandoned all judicial processes and resorted to purported abduction of their kinsmen to Lagos on a charted aircraft.
Chief Egbo claimed that police from Lagos has been trailing them for arrest over the ownership of their community and appealed to the IG and Police Service Commission to save them.
When contacted the Managing-Drector, ,Private Estate International West Africa Limited PEIWA , Mr Kinsley Eze neither accepted nor denied responsibility but only referred our correspondent to the Police and Chief of staff to the Governor for confirmation.
However all effort to get reaction from the AIG CID Annex ikoyi Lagos Mararette Ochalla was unsuccessful while calls and messages to the police public relations officer ACP OLumuyiwa Adejeobi was also futile as at the time of this report
