The Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Innovation, has launched a five-day intensive training programme for over 360 newly appointed Head Teachers and Principals of the Smart Green Schools across Enugu State.
Declaring the training open, the Executive Chairman of ENSUBEB, Assoc. Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe, urged participants to make the most of the sessions, emphasizing that their performance and leadership capacity would determine their continued tenure in the Smart Schools.
“The positions of Head Teachers and Principals will no longer be permanent postings,” he stated. “Only those who perform well will remain in the Smart Schools.”
Prof. Okibe expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his unwavering commitment to making the Smart Green School initiative a reality. He described the training as a strategic step toward actualizing the governor’s vision of transforming education in Enugu State through technology, innovation, and sustainability.
The ENSUBEB Chairman cautioned participants to uphold discipline, respect, and loyalty to constituted authorities, stressing that effective school leadership requires patience, humility, and adherence to established rules. He encouraged them to promote peaceful coexistence among teachers, learners, and host communities.
He further emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of love, peace, and unity, noting that Smart Green Schools represent a new era that demands renewed attitudes, professionalism, and passion for teaching.
“The public expects to see a new breed of teachers—innovative, dedicated, and driven by the ‘I Can Do It’ spirit. No one should disappoint or betray the noble intentions of Governor Mbah in transforming education in our state,” he added.
The training programme is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge of Smart Green School operations, digital literacy, and leadership skills required to manage their institutions effectively and deliver quality, inclusive education.
Over the five days, participants will engage in expert-led sessions, collaborative learning, and hands-on demonstrations tailored to empower them as champions of innovation and sustainability in their respective schools.
