Enugu Climbs to 5th Position Nationally in Climate Governance Ranking

…Ranks 1st in Climate Policy and Action Plan Category

Enugu State has recorded a remarkable leap in the Second Subnational Climate Governance Ranking and Rating Report, moving from 15th position last year to 5th nationally.

The report was released by the Federal Ministry of Environment in partnership with the Society for Planet and Prosperity, the National Climate Change Council, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), and other stakeholders.

Governor Peter Mbah made this known while receiving the certificate of recognition from his Special Adviser on Climate Change, Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke.

Governor Mbah expressed delight at the new ranking, describing it as a testament to his administration’s steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

“This progress reflects our administration’s commitment to building a sustainable green economy, advancing bold climate action, and ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for our people,” the governor stated.

Enugu State also emerged 1st in the Climate Policy and Action Plan category, underscoring its leadership in developing and implementing climate-friendly policies.

Governor Mbah dedicated the recognition to the people of Enugu State, noting that their support continues to inspire the government to aim higher.

“This recognition is not just a win for government, but for Ndi Enugu whose support continues to inspire us. Together, we will lead the way in climate resilience and sustainable development,” he added.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen policies and partnerships that promote green growth and environmental protection across the state.
