Former political appointees of the Enugu state whose appointments have either been terminated or expired are to return official and diplomatic passports previously issued to them.
This is contained in a directive issued by the state government in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, weekend and obtained by EnuguDaily.
The statement titled “RETRIEVAL OF OFFICIAL AND DIPLOMATIC PASSPORTS FROM POLITICAL APPOINTEES CONCERNED”, said the directive follows an instruction from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Abuja.
The former appointees are given till Friday September 5, to submit the passports to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government at the Government House, Enugu, for onward transmission to the NIS Enugu Command.
“This exercise is a matter of national protocol and strict compliance with immigration regulations, and it must be treated with utmost urgency”.
“Your full cooperation is respectfully solicited to ensure a smooth and seamless process,” the SSG said.
The directive underscores the federal government’s enforcement of passport retrieval protocols for ex-government officials, a move aimed at strengthening accountability and proper use of travel documents.
