ENUGU: Group Disputes APC’s Two Million E-Registration Claim

A political pressure group championing the interests of Ndi Enugu has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its claim that its ongoing electronic membership registration exercise in Enugu State is nearing two million registrants, dismissing the figure as exaggerated and unsupported by verifiable data from the grassroots.

The movement said the APC has on several occasions asserted that its e-registration drive in the state is approaching the two-million mark, a claim it described as “grossly misleading” and inconsistent with realities on the ground.

In a statement issued on Thursday under the banner Uche Ndi Enugu Capacity Media, the group disclosed that findings compiled from all 260 political wards in Enugu State indicate that only 89,345 persons have been registered so far on the APC’s e-registration platform.

It explained that the figure was derived from ward-by-ward reports submitted by appointed coordinators and local government supervisors across the state, insisting that the data reflects actual participation rather than speculative projections.

According to the movement, the total of 89,345 registrants across 260 wards translates to an average of about 343 registrations per ward.

It argued that for the APC to attain two million registrations, it would need to record over 7,600 registrants per ward—an outcome it described as unrealistic given the present tempo and reach of the exercise.

The group further stated that the wide numerical disparity exposes the two-million figure as political exaggeration rather than a factual account of progress, warning that such claims could undermine public trust.

While acknowledging the APC’s right to recruit members, the movement stressed that political mobilisation must be rooted in transparency and credibility.

It also noted that registration figures alone do not equate to electoral strength, adding that true grassroots influence is measured by sustained community engagement, effective ward structures, and consistent electoral performance—areas it said remain challenging for the APC in Enugu State.

“Enugu people are politically conscious and understand that numbers cannot be bent by propaganda,” the statement said, adding that credibility in politics begins with honesty.

The movement concluded that 89,345 registrations across 260 wards cannot, by any logical calculation, amount to two million, urging the APC to present accurate facts and refrain from misleading the public.
