The Enugu State Government is pleased to announce the commencement of the Gratuity Verification Exercise for retirees and next of kin of deceased retirees.
The exercise will begin on Monday, 24th February 2025, and is specifically designed for individuals eligible for gratuity payments and related entitlements.
This initiative follows the successful completion of earlier verification exercises for active workers and pensioners.
The government extends its gratitude to all stakeholders for their cooperation during the previous phases and anticipates the same level of participation and compliance during this exercise.
PURPOSE OF THE GRATUITY VERIFICATION EXERCISE
The verification exercise aims to:
1. Update and validate the records of retirees and next of kin.
2. Ensure that only legitimate beneficiaries receive their gratuity and related entitlements.
3. Eliminate fraud, discrepancies, and delays in the payment process.
4. Establish a reliable and accurate database for future reference.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
• Retirees who are yet to receive their gratuity payments.
• Next of Kin of deceased retirees who are eligible for gratuity or related entitlements.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR VERIFICATION
To facilitate a seamless verification process, all participants are required to present the following documents:
1. Notice of Retirement
2. Pension Identification Card
3. Pension Form and Pension Authority
4. Bank Verification Number (BVN)
5. National Identification Number (NIN)
6. Two (2) Recent Passport Photographs
7. Bank Statement of Account for at least one (1) year
8. Death Certificate (for Next of Kin)
9. Letter of Administration or Affidavit (for Next of Kin)
10. Any other relevant supporting documents

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PENSIONERS ABROAD OR HOSPITALIZED:
Retirees who are unable to attend the verification exercise in person due to being abroad or hospitalized are required to follow these steps:
1. Authorization Letter: Provide a signed affidavit or letter of consent authorizing a representative to act on your behalf. The letter must include your full name, pension identification number, and the name of the authorized representative.
2. Document Submission: Ensure your authorized representative submits all required documents to the verification team. Additionally, email scanned copies of the documents to verifygratuity@gmail.com. The subject line of the email must include your full name and pension identification number for easy identification.
3. Remote Verification: Once your documents are received, the verification team will process them remotely. You will be notified upon completion of the process.
VERIFICATION VENUES:
The exercise will take place at designated centers across the state as follows:
• Head Quarters of each LGA as stated above
Time: 8:00am daily
• Diaspora Retirees: Virtual verification will be conducted as scheduled from 9am daily.
*IMPORTANT NOTES*
• All participants must bring original documents and photocopies for submission.
• Retirees who have already received their full entitlements are not required to participate. However, those who have received partial payments must provide proof of receipt and declare the amount received. Failure to comply may result in punitive actions, including forfeiture of entitlements.
• Ensure your bank account details are accurate and up-to-date for at least one (1) year.
• Arrive at the venue early and adhere to all instructions from verification officers.
• Strict compliance with the assigned dates and venues is mandatory for a smooth process.
