…. as Enugu CP, Gov Mba, Others Attend Passing Out Parade
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has charged newly recruited police constables to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights as they begin their careers in the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP gave the charge during the Passing Out Parade of 379 new constables of the 2022/2023 Batch held on Tuesday at the Police College, Oji-River, Enugu State.
He was represented at the ceremony by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13 Command, AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo, psc.
In his address, IGP Egbetokun described policing as a “sacred duty” that demands self-discipline, service, and integrity.
He urged the officers to shun acts of corruption, extortion, and abuse of power, reminding them that the trust and confidence of citizens in the police depend largely on their conduct in the line of duty.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, joined other dignitaries at the colourful event, which also featured parade displays, awards presentations, and a demonstration march forming the acronyms NPF (Nigeria Police Force) and PCO (Police College Oji-River).
Commandant of the College, AIG Emmanuel Simon Bretet, commended the IGP for his unwavering support and leadership.
He disclosed that the 379 graduating constables underwent intensive training covering police duties, legal and liberal studies, and professional ethics.
According to him, the recruits were drawn from five states in the South-East region: Abia (6), Anambra (72), Ebonyi (81), Enugu (194), and Imo (26).
Representing the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Emeka Ajogwu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies.
He urged the new constables to be dedicated, community-oriented, and exemplary in their service.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding graduands, including the “Best in Professional Studies” award presented by CP Giwa to Constable Chukwuma Jane.
Other notable attendees included AIG Chukwudi Ariekpere, in charge of the Force CID Annex, Enugu; Brigadier General Stephen Dogo, representing the GOC, 82 Division, Nigerian Army; CP Ikioye Orutugu, Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command; and representatives of various security agencies.
The ceremony marked another milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based policing and improve internal security across the country.
