EPL: Martinelli’s late goal rescues Arsenal in 1-1 draw with Man City

Gabriel Martinelli’s stoppage-time goal earned Arsenal a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Haaland opened the scoring in the ninth minute after Tijjani Reijnders’ ramping run ended with a neat pass into the striker’s path.

The Norwegian made no mistake, drilling the ball into the bottom corner to give City the lead from their first clear opportunity.

For large periods thereafter, City sat deep and defended, forcing Arsenal to manufacture chances against a compact back line.

Momentum came in Arsenal’s favour when Mikel Arteta introduced Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka at halftime.

The Gunners peppered Gianluigi Donnarumma with shots, but the Italian produced several important saves to keep City ahead.

After seven minutes of added time, Arsenal finally found a breakthrough.

Substitute Martinelli timed his run perfectly to meet an aerial pass from Eberechi Eze, cheekily lobbing Donnarumma in the 90+3rd minute and sending the Emirates into raptures.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among the home crowd and denied City all three points.

The result leaves Arsenal on 10 points as the Premier League heads for the international break soon.
