The Enugu State Government has, Friday, sealed off one of the private schools in the state capital over a child of 3 years (name withheld) who was alleged to have been sexually molested by her teacher from the school known as Tender Links Schools.
Sealing off the school at Trans-Ekulu area, the duo Commissioners for Education and the Child, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah and Mrs. Ngozi Eni with an Executive Order, swift into action by shutting down the school pending when the Police investigation on the matter would be concluded.
Speaking shortly after the closure of the school, the Hon. Commissioner for Education stated that the incidence went against the governor’s fundamental vision and mission to create safe learning environment in Enugu State.
He said, “this is the type of incidence that goes against the fundamental vision and mission of His Excellency which is to create safe learning environment in Enugu State for our children. The safety of our children is of paramount importance.
“Quality education means quality life extended from home to the state. The mere thought of consideration that our schools or any of our schools maybe unsafe for our children is a calamitous news to us. We are aware that the Commissioner of Police is on top of this situation. But based on the number of the parents who have come forward to complain that their children have also been molested, His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has given an Executive Order that the Ministry of Education in executing its function and its mandate should with immediate effect, put up a seal off shutdown on this school, Tender Links Schools, pending the outcome of full police investigation.”
The Education Commissioner explained further that Enugu State had zero tolerance on child abuse and “sexual molestation of our children by anybody under the guise of any institution. We will pursue this to the fullness extent of the law without compromise. His Excellency is investing massively in the education sector. And so, this is the worst type of incidence that could happen in this state; a state that is been celebrated worldwide for its proactive visionary intervention in the education sector.”
The Hon. Commissioner for Child, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Eni in earlier interview said that they would not be biased in finding out the root cause of it as some parents complained that their children were also molested. She commended the prompt response of the police in ensuring that investigation took place immediately which would be concluded in no distance time.
She said, “the police are on it but because some many other parents came out to still complain that their children were also molested, we had to get an executive order to seal of the school for now until the police are done with their investigation.”
The parents pleaded not to be captured in the news since the matter was with the police and efforts to get the owner of the school at the time of this report, proved abortive.
