GPBN hails President Tinubu Over Appointment of Gen. Musa as Defence Minister

The Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by the Director of Communications of the Guild, Abiola Alaba Peters.

The appointment follows the resignation of former Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru.

In a letter transmitted to the Senate, President Tinubu described General Musa as a seasoned military officer whose wealth of experience and impeccable service record would help bolster Nigeria’s defence systems as the country continues to grapple with escalating security threats.

Reacting to the development, the newly elected President of GPBN, Damilare Bankole, hailed the President’s choice, describing the retired general as “a soldier of impeccable integrity and long service.”

“We wholeheartedly commend His Excellency, President Tinubu, for this important appointment,” Bankole said. “By appointing General Musa, the President has demonstrated seriousness about restoring security, stability, and public confidence in our defence institutions.”

He further noted that the appointment brings renewed hope for strategic leadership and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The Guild expressed confidence that General Musa’s emergence as Defence Minister would be a turning point in the fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and related security threats. It also called on civil society groups, the media, and citizens to give the new minister their full support as he undertakes the critical task ahead.

GPBN also congratulated General Musa on what it described as a well-deserved appointment and urged him to issue firm directives to the military to decisively tackle criminal elements waging war against Nigerians.
