The Enugu State Committee on Food and Nutrition and the Local Government Committees on Food and Nutrition have conferred a nutrition champion and ambassador award on the Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers and traditional ruler of Edem-Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu.
The investiture took place at the peoples’ palace Ozara Edem Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State.
The Chairman, State Committee on Food and Nutrition and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs Clara Nwakaego Eze, accompanied by members, of the committee explained that the award was in recognition of the Monarch’s humanitarian services to his people and beyond, stressing that his outstanding achievements in critical sectors deserve recognition.
Mrs Eze described the monarch as a progressive leader whose achievements have positively transformed the community and strengthened its cultural heritage.
The State Nutrition and Food Committee Chairman further stated that the monarch’s style of leadership reflects the values of ancient Igbo kingdoms, where authority is exercised with wisdom, accountability and service to the people stressing that Edem Ani has become a reference point in grassroots development and cultural preservation, inspiring neighbouring communities to adopt similar approaches.
Speaking shortly after receiving the Nutrition Ambassador Award, Igwe Samuel Asadu appreciated the recognition by the State Committee on Food and Nutrition.
Igwe Asadu said Food and Nutrition remain an important component of human survival and healthy living which he said inspired him to set up a food bank in his palace where indigent persons in his community have meals with adequate nutrition any time of the day.
He attributed his achievements to his understanding of leadership as a divine responsibility and a commitment to serving the people with humility.
He stated that true greatness in leadership is measured by how leaders treat those under their authority, stressing that respect, compassion and fairness are essential qualities of effective leadership
According to him, meaningful leadership is reflected in small acts of kindness that collectively strengthen community bonds and promote unity.
Igwe Asadu said since he ascended the throne he has initiated projects aimed at improving the living standards of his people.
Other speakers at the event including Emeka Neboh , a director of information at the Ministry of Information and Communication and member of the committee, commended the developmental strides and leadership qualities of IGWE Asadu describing his contributions as impactful and people-oriented.
They highlighted his wide-ranging experience spanning private enterprise and public service, which he said has greatly influenced his inclusive style of engagement.
Highlights of the investiture ceremony was a tour of the Food bank and Graceland Christened 9th wonders of the world and presentation award plaque to Igwe Asadu.
