Kano District Head Dankabo dies at 48

The District Head of Kabo and traditional title holder of Sarkin Gabas in Kano State, Allaji Idris Dankabo is dead.

Aged 48, the traditional ruler, died on Thursday night following a ghastly motor accident in Kano metropolis.

The death of the traditional ruler was confirmed by the Kano Emirate Council on the Facebook page of the Emirate council, “Sanusi Dynasty”.

Late Idris was the eldest son of the Chairman of the defunct Kabo Air and Jarma of Kano, late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo.

He left behind one wife and two children.

The funeral prayers will be held today Friday around 10 am at the Kano Emir’s palace where the Emir is expected to lead the prayers. The Dankabo family is regarded as one of Kano’s most influential, with the late patriarch, Alhaji Adamu Dankabo, playing a prominent role in business, politics, and philanthropy.

Kabo Air, which he established in 1980, operated domestic, regional, and international flights before scaling down operations in the 2000s, focusing mainly on charter and Hajj services.

The title of Sarkin Gabas, held by the late Idris Dankabo, is one of the senior positions within the Kano Emirate hierarchy, carrying cultural and administrative responsibilities.

His death at a relatively young age is expected to leave a gap in the traditional leadership structure of the emirate, which remains one of the most influential in Northern Nigeria.
