Nigerian telecom operator changes name

Embattled Nigerian mobile network operator, 9mobile has changed its name to T2 amid a survival crisis.

The telco Chief Executive Officer, Obafemi Banigbe, made this known at an event in Lagos on Friday.

According to him, it unveils a new era for the firm.

“We are no longer who we were; we are becoming something greater, more ambitious, and more in tune with the future,” he said.

Recall that in 2017, Etisalat was renamed 9mobile.

The mobile network with the fewest subscribers in Nigeria has continued to suffer from management crises and low quality of service in the last 8 years without a solution.

The firm has just 2.4 million subscribers, accounting for 1.42 percent of 171.73 active telcom subscribers in Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission data as of June 2025.
