Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has paid his final respects to the late highlife legend and folklorist, Dr. Mike Ejeagha, fondly known as “Gwo Gwo Gwom.”
Obi, who arrived Enugu from Lagos early this morning, journeyed to Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu Local Government Area to join family, friends, and well-wishers in honouring the late music icon.
In a message shared after the graveside visit, Obi described Ejeagha as a man who lived a life “richly lived and profoundly impactful,” particularly through his immense contribution to culture, storytelling, and traditional music in Nigeria.
“In the quiet solemnity of that sacred moment, surrounded by his loved ones and a reverend father, we offered prayers at his graveside, commending his noble soul to the Almighty,” Obi said.
He further noted that Ejeagha’s life and legacy serve as a reminder of the beauty of service, truth, and cultural preservation, urging Nigerians to emulate his dedication to uplifting society through creativity and authenticity.
“May his memory inspire us to use our own gifts for the good of society, and to live in a manner worthy of remembrance,” Obi added.
Dr. Mike Ejeagha, who passed away earlier this year, was celebrated for his deep influence on Igbo folk music, blending wisdom, rhythm, and storytelling in ways that preserved the language and moral values of the Igbo people.
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.” – Peter Obi
