The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms, a snatched motorcycle, and other exhibits in two separate operations carried out across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests were part of the Command’s ongoing clampdown on armed robbery and related crimes under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
Ndukwe disclosed that on October 1, 2025, police operatives attached to Nenwe and Owelle-Court Divisions, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Forest Guards, apprehended one Okonkwo Chukwuebuka, 27, for armed robbery. His accomplice, however, escaped.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on September 30, 2025, the suspect and his fleeing partner had boarded a commercial motorcycle in Nenwe, Aninri Local Government Area, and robbed the rider at gunpoint.
They were later intercepted while attempting to flee upon sighting security personnel. A cut-to-size gun and the stolen motorcycle were recovered from the suspect.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Command’s Octopus Squad arrested another suspect, Ibe Christian, also aged 27, on September 28, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. Acting on intelligence, the officers recovered a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol and a dagger from him.
The police spokesperson said both suspects would be charged to court once investigations are completed.
Commissioner Giwa commended the police operatives and their security partners for their dedication and teamwork, urging residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to continue providing the Command with credible information to help eliminate criminal elements in Enugu State.
