UK celebrates Nigeria’s aid workers on World Humanitarian Day

As the world marks World Humanitarian Day 2025, the UK government has spotlighted the heroic efforts of aid workers in Nigeria, including Dr. Ifuk-ibot John of the World Food Programme and Wandu Zira George of CARE International.

The UK in Nigeria, through a series of striking images and messages shared on X on Tuesday, honoured the workers’ contributions.

“This #WorldHumanitarianDay, we celebrate aid workers, like Dr. Ifuk-ibot John (@WFP_Nigeria) & Wandu Zira George (@CARE Nigeria), helping vulnerable people access food, healthcare & protection,” the British High Commission in Nigeria said.

Dr. John is a nutrition officer at WFP. He is involved in WFP’s operations in northeast Nigeria, where the programme is seeking to alleviate households struggling with ever-increasing food prices.

He is recognised for empowering women survivors who challenge inequality and expand community decision-making.

Ms. George is the Coordinator of Women Lead in Emergency for Care Nigeria, where she has led various humanitarian initiatives in Nigeria, particularly in the northern states.
