.….Cites Development and Political Advantage
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dave Nnamani, has called on Governor Peter Mbah to join the party, describing his defection as a strategic move that would benefit both the APC and the people of Enugu State.
Speaking at the Enugu East Senatorial District’s APC stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday, Nnamani recalled the party’s struggle to gain a foothold in the state since its formation in 2013.
In a video obtained by EnuguDaily, he noted that despite fielding governorship candidates in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 elections, the APC had yet to win a single councillorship seat.
“Our party was formed in 2013 as a result of the merger between CPC, ANPP, and ACN in Lagos,” he said.
“Since then, we have presented gubernatorial candidates in every election, but we have lost in 2015, 2019, and 2023. Till today, we have not been able to win even a councillor.”
According to Nnamani, Governor Mbah’s track record of achievements across various sectors of the state’s economy makes him a valuable asset to the APC.
He maintained that welcoming the governor into the party would strengthen its political base and enhance development in Enugu State.
“It is only logical that if you have a serving governor who is doing a lot of work and is willing to join your party, the best thing to do is to receive him with open arms—for the interest of the party and the citizens,” Nnamani said.
“Governor Peter Mbah is doing well across boards. If he is coming to our party, it is an advantage to us, the people of Enugu East, Enugu State, and Nigeria generally.”
The APC stalwart also emphasized the importance of political alignment between the federal, state, and local governments, noting that it would facilitate the flow of appointments and amenities.
“What trickles from government is much, and we are building a federal system where the President, the Governor, and the Local Government Chairman share the same political platform,” he added.
“If you have all three under the same party, it becomes very easy for development and appointments to flow from the federal government down to the grassroots.”
Nnamani’s call comes amid growing political realignments in Enugu State as parties position themselves ahead of 2027 general elections.
