Apollo Creed actor, Carl Weathers, dies at 76

Hollywood actor, Carl Weathers, known for his role as Apollo Creed in the first four “Rocky” films, has passed away, his manager Matt Luber confirmed on Friday.

He died at the age of 76.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement.

“He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, [Feb. 1], 2024.

“Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend,” the statement read.

Weathers had notable appearances in movies like the 1987 film “Predator” and Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore.”

‘Love Story’ star, Ryan O’Neal, dies at 82
His recent performance in the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

He lent his voice to the character Combat Carl in the animated film “Toy Story 4” and made appearances as a fictionalised version of himself in the television series “Arrested Development.”

His list of credits includes appearances in popular TV shows like “Street Justice,” “Colony,” “The Shield,” “Chicago Justice,” and “Brothers.”

He has also been a part of notable films such as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Death Hunt,” and “The Comebacks.”
