The Enugu State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security during the 2026 Easter celebration, with a directive for the full deployment of personnel and operational resources across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, gave the assurance in a statement issued ahead of the Easter festivities, congratulating Christians on the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He called on Christian faithful to reflect on virtues such as love, sacrifice, humility, and forgiveness, urging them to promote peace, unity, and lawful conduct during the celebration.
As part of measures to ensure a hitch-free holiday, the police command said officers would be strategically deployed to churches, recreational centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public places to deter criminal activities and guarantee swift response to emergencies.
The Commissioner further directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of tactical units to intensify visibility policing, conduct confidence-building patrols, and carry out intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies.
He also tasked the State Criminal Intelligence Department with enhancing credible intelligence gathering, warning that any form of security lapse would not be tolerated.
While reiterating the command’s readiness to deal decisively with criminal elements, the police boss advised motorists to obey traffic regulations to avoid accidents.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
The Command wished residents of Enugu State a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
