Enugu Government Announces Verification Exercise for Pensioners, Retirees, New Employees, Others

The Enugu State Government has announced the commencement of a special verification exercise for newly employed civil servants, pensioners, retirees, and Next-of-Kin who were unable to participate in previous verification exercises.

The exercise, according to the government, is aimed at strengthening transparency, improving records management, and ensuring the prompt processing and payment of legitimate entitlements.

In a public service announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the verification exercise will begin on Monday, May 18, 2026.

The government stated that the exercise would cover four major categories, including new employee verification, pension verification, gratuity verification, and Next-of-Kin verification.

Under the arrangement, pensioners and retirees awaiting gratuity verification will undergo verification from May 18 to May 22, 2026, while newly employed civil servants will be verified from May 25 to May 29, 2026.

The exercise will take place at the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Enugu, beginning daily at 8:00 a.m.
According to the announcement, eligible participants include newly employed staff in the Enugu State Civil Service, pensioners who missed previous verification exercises, retirees awaiting gratuity verification or payment, as well as Next-of-Kin of deceased retirees entitled to gratuity or related benefits.

The state government directed all eligible participants to appear in person and present both original copies and photocopies of required documents.
For pensioners, retirees, and Next-of-Kin, the required documents include notice of retirement, online verification form printout, pension identification card, pension authority documents, BVN, NIN, passport photographs, bank statements covering at least one year, and other supporting documents.

Next-of-Kin are also expected to provide death certificates as well as letters of administration or sworn affidavits.

Meanwhile, newly employed staff are required to present documents such as letters of first appointment, confirmation of appointment, promotion letters where applicable, birth certificates or age declarations, educational qualifications, BVN, NIN, and passport photographs.

The government further warned against double verification, stressing that any attempt to participate fraudulently after receiving full entitlements could lead to sanctions, including forfeiture of benefits.

It also advised beneficiaries who had received partial payments to provide evidence of such payments and declare all amounts previously received.

Participants are urged to ensure that their bank account details are accurate and active and to arrive early while complying with all instructions issued by verification officers.

The government emphasized that strict adherence to the scheduled dates would help ensure an orderly and efficient process.

For enquiries and complaints, the government provided a helpline — 0916-810-1470 — and an email address, enuguverify@gmail.com.

The Enugu State Government reiterated its commitment to accountability, transparency, and efficiency in public service administration, assuring that all legitimate beneficiaries would receive their entitlements in a timely and orderly manner.
