ENUGU NUJ Inaugurates Corporate Online Chapel

Corporate Online Chapel Enugu

 

The Corporate Online Chapel, COC, of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State has been inaugurated.

The Online Chapel has as Executive Members;  Clinton Umeh, (Journalist101), Chairman, Jonathan Ikechukwu (First News), Vice-Chairman, Odomero Igbodo, (Dome Television) , Secretary, and Christian Nwangene of Aproko Republic as Assistant Secretary.

Other executive members of the new Chapel are Maureen Ikpeama, ( News Line Global ) treasurer, Emmanuel Terwase, ( Afriquecast) Financial Secretary and Sebastien Okafor, of Journalist101, Internal Auditor.

Speaking while inaugurating the Executive of the Online Chapel on Thursday at the NUJ Press Centre, Chairman of the Enugu State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Sam Udekwe said the inauguration of the online chapel brings to eleven the number of Chapels in Enugu council.

Udekwe charged the executive members of the newly inaugurated Chapel to ensure that members operate within the tenets of the journalism profession and expressed the hope that the new chapel will grow to be formidable.

He said there are criteria for membership of the Chapel which must be adhered to, and tasked the new EXCO to make a difference.

“This is a very promising chapel. You have your membership now. I want to assure you that more members will come in. You know what it takes to be qualified to be a member and we expect you to take this to heart while admitting new members because It is not open to just anybody . It is not open to all bloggers , that’s why we say it is Corporate Online. It’s for online practitioners that are Journalists.

“There are online publishers that are not Journalists. That’s why we want you to make a difference. So, we want you to show the society that there are online practitioners, the ones that are members of NUJ,” Udekwe said.

 

Speaking on behalf of the members of newly inaugurated  Chapel, the Chairman, Clinton Umeh thanked the National Chairman of the NUJ, Chris Isiguzo for foresight in creating a space for online professionals.

While describing the Online Chapel as a new baby, Umeh said members have been practicing and assured that they will live up to expectation by upholding the fundamental principles of journalism practice in Nigeria.

He said with the official inauguration of the online chapel, it is now empowered to support the NUJ to sanitize the system.

“Members of the Chapel will live up to expectations and work in accordance with what the Constitution says.

“This Chapel is a new dawn in online practice and will provide a platform for us to unite all that are qualified under one umbrella to ensure professionalism in the discharge of our duties as Journalists.”

He also thanked the chairman of the state council and members of his executive for their guidance and direction to see the chapel to fruition.

The event was witnessed by the Vice Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Regis Anikworji, the Secretary, Comrade Ifeoma Amuta, Comrade and among other members.
