The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on drug peddling and related criminal activities, arresting four suspects and recovering large quantities of illicit substances, cash, and other incriminating items in coordinated operations across the Enugu metropolis.
Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command disclosed this in a statement.
According to the Police spokesperson, in one of the operations, operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, acting on credible intelligence, raided a criminal hideout behind New Market, Enugu, on January 26, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m.
A 46-year-old woman, identified as Omeru Nkechi, was arrested for alleged drug peddling.
Items recovered from the suspect included a big bag of substance suspected to be Indian hemp, rolls of electric wires, assorted off-cut wires, a water-pumping machine, a POS machine, two ATM cards, and a cash sum of ₦1.8 million.
Similarly, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad, while on crime-prevention patrol and acting on actionable intelligence, carried out raids on identified black spots in Obeagu, Asata, and the Holy Ghost Railway Area on January 25, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m.
During the operation, three male suspects — Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20), and Nwachukwu Michael (27) — were arrested, with Nwachukwu suspected to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
Exhibits recovered from the three suspects included thirty-two small containers and one sachet of substances suspected to be cannabis, as well as twelve wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs.
The police said discreet investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects and dismantle the wider drug-peddling networks operating within the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug abuse, cultism, and all forms of criminality.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to continue providing credible information to assist the police in sustaining peace and security across the state.
