…Recover Firearm and Stolen Phone
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspected criminals in separate operations targeting armed robbery and cult-related activities across the state.
The suspects include two alleged armed robbers and two suspected cultists. During the operations, police recovered a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, a knife, a pick-handle axe, and a stolen Samsung A12 mobile phone.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested 24-year-old Ndubuisi Chigozie, also known as “Sky B,” on July 27, following the confessional statement of his alleged accomplice, 20-year-old Okafor Timothy.
Police said Timothy had earlier been arrested at a hotel in Independence Layout, Enugu, on July 26, where a knife was recovered from him, while Chigozie initially escaped.
Investigations revealed that the duo allegedly robbed a male victim of a Samsung A12 mobile phone at the hotel and injured another victim during the attack.
The stolen phone, the knife, and a pick-handle axe were recovered during the operation.
In a separate operation carried out on July 26, operatives attached to the Igbo-Etiti Police Division, acting on credible intelligence and with the support of residents, arrested two suspected cultists, Chibuike Stanley Odoh, aged 20, and Ezekiel Ozoeze, aged 30, in Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.
The police recovered a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge from the suspects, who reportedly confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.
The Police Command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits, adding that all those arrested will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the vigilance and cooperation of residents, particularly members of the Ukehe Community, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, urged citizens to remain law-abiding and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen efforts against crime and criminality in the state.
