The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three suspects linked to alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, and illicit drug peddling in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, said the arrests underscore the Command’s determination to sustain its crackdown on crime through proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on May 30 arrested two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers during an operation along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
The suspects, identified as Ogbonna Chinonso, 22, and Nnachi Cypril, 35, were apprehended at a drinking spot following actionable intelligence.
Police recovered a locally made revolver pistol, a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one live cartridge during a search of the suspects.
In a separate operation carried out earlier the same day at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, VCRU operatives arrested a 36-year-old suspected drug peddler, Izunna Ani. Large quantities of substances suspected to be the illicit drugs popularly known as “Loud” and “Kolos” were recovered from him.
The police said investigations into the cases are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and vigilance, CP Giwa reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating violent crimes and other forms of criminality in the state.
He also urged residents to remain security-conscious and continue to provide the police with credible and actionable information to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across Enugu State.
