The Enugu State Police Command has disbursed over ₦52.9 million to families of deceased police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
The cheques, totalling ₦52,971,803.09, were presented to beneficiaries on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, by the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
While presenting the cheques, the Commissioner consoled the families and urged them to make prudent use of the funds to support their households and secure their future.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Rev. Charles Ugwuagu, Regent of Uboji-Ngwo Autonomous Communities in Udi Local Government Area, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force for the gesture.
He assured that the beneficiaries would utilize the funds judiciously for the welfare and advancement of their families.
The disbursement marks the climax of a series of activities organized by the Command to commemorate National Police Day 2026.
The events included town hall meetings, sanitation exercises, medical outreaches, a walkathon, and public sensitization campaigns on electoral violence, safe driving, and adherence to traffic regulations.
The Command noted that the grand finale of the celebration will be held at Eagle Square in Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and other activities.
The Commissioner of Police also appreciated residents of Enugu State for their support during the period, assuring that lessons from the engagements would be used to strengthen police-community relations and enhance public trust.
