The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its search for the armed men who murdered Rev. Father Matthew Eya on the night of September 19, 2025, along Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona community, Nsukka Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, ordered the renewed manhunt following reports of the attack. He directed the Udenu Area Commander and heads of the command’s tactical and operational squads to fish out the fleeing assailants and ensure they are brought to justice.
In the course of the operation, police operatives under the Udenu Area Command carried out extensive bush combing and raided several criminal hideouts.
The exercise led to the arrest of thirty-eight (38) suspects and the recovery of incriminating exhibits.
The suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their connection to the murder.
CP Giwa, who commiserated with the bereaved family and the Catholic Church, assured the public that the police would leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that the command remains fully committed to restoring peace and ensuring that those responsible for the killing face the full weight of the law.
