Fortunately, no lives were lost and no vehicle was affected in the incident, averting what could have been a serious disaster.
Eyewitnesses said the tree, weakened by age and recent rainfall, crashed across the lane this afternoon, causing panic among motorists and pedestrians.
Officials of the Enugu State Ministry of Transport swiftly responded to an emergency call and arrived at the scene to manage the situation.
Traffic is currently being diverted to the free lane while workers cut the fallen tree into smaller pieces to clear the road.
A personnel of the Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA), who spoke to newsmen at the scene, urged motorists to exercise patience as clearing operations continue.
“Our men are on ground to ensure the safety of road users and smooth diversion of traffic. We advise drivers to obey instructions and remain calm,” the official said.
Similarly, a traffic officer from the Nigeria Police Command, commended the quick response of state emergency teams, noting that their prompt action prevented further disruption.
“We are working together to clear the obstruction and ensure normal traffic flow resumes as soon as possible,” he stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the clearing of the tree was still ongoing, but traffic movement on Bisalla Road has been partially restored.
