Four arraigned for suspected defilement cases in Anambra

Four suspects, arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for their involvement in separate cases of defilement, were on Thursday arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Court sitting in Awka, the state capital.

The spokesman for the Anambra State Police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press statement released on Thursday, said the suspects were arraigned on Wednesday and subsequently remanded at the correctional centre pending further court proceedings.

He assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of children and other vulnerable persons in the state, while also warning all offenders that such acts would not go unpunished.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command on August 20, 2025, arraigned four suspects involved in separate cases of defilement before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court sitting in Awka.

“The suspects were subsequently remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further court proceedings.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has reassured the public of his unwavering commitment to the protection of children and other vulnerable persons in the state, while also warning all offenders that such acts will not go unpunished.”
