Giwa Cracks Down on Detention Lapses with Surprise CID Inspection in Enugu

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has carried out an unscheduled inspection of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detention facility, directing officers to ensure prompt and proper handling of cases.

The inspection, which took place on April 14, 2026, saw the CP assess conditions at the facility, engage directly with detainees and officers on duty, and review the welfare and status of suspects, including those under investigation for capital offences.

During the visit, Giwa charged the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to strictly adhere to statutory procedures and uphold the humane treatment of suspects.

He also stressed the importance of diligent and professional management of ongoing investigations.

The police chief further emphasized the need for timely and thorough conclusion of cases, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

He directed that all cases be properly documented and, where necessary, promptly charged to court.

According to the Command, the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability, improve detention standards, and enhance professionalism across investigative units in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, stated that the initiative underscores the Command’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring efficient policing in Enugu State.
