In what many have described as a bold move to sanitize the Education Sector in Imo State, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has summoned the Proprietors of 100 Private Schools allegedly operating with fake approvals or irregular documentation.
According to a circular dated July 11, 2025, and signed by Officials of the Ministry, the affected School Proprietors are mandatorily invited to meet with the Hon. Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, alongside the Permanent Secretary, and Directors from UBSE, Quality Assurance, and ESSD.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Conference Room, Second Floor, Block 3, Imo State Secretariat, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri by 11:00 AM sharp (no African time).
The invitation explicitly targets schools accused of site infractions and illegally obtained approval and renewal letters. As part of the ongoing investigations, proprietors are expected to appear with the following critical documents:
* First approval/license issued for the operation of the school
* Subsequent renewal letters
* Receipts of registration fees paid
* TSA receipts (from 2020 to date), particularly from 2022 to April 2025
* Full list of tutorial and non-tutorial staff with academic qualifications and institutions attended
Before the official list of the 100 affected schools were made public, concerned parents, teachers, and students across the State demanded that the Ministry release the names immediately to prevent further academic and financial harm.
One parent, Mrs. Ifeoma Udeh, who spoke with our correspondent in Owerri, said:
“I want to know if my Child’s School is among those under scrutiny. We pay heavily to ensure our kids are properly educated, not sent to illegal institutions.”
A teacher at one of the prominent private Schools in Owerri who asked not to be named added:
“This is a wake-up call. If you’re running a Legitimate School, you should have nothing to hide. But if your papers are fake, you have no business misleading students and collecting school fees.”
The Ministry says the investigation is part of its broader campaign to ensure quality control, staff qualification verification, and authenticity of operational licenses — following rising complaints about the integrity of some private Educational Institutions in the State.

🛑 Parents and guardians are advised to stay informed and check with the Ministry before the new academic term begins.
