The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has refunded a N3.4 billion Hajj loan to the state government after concluding the 2026 pilgrimage and ahead of preparations for the 2027 exercise.
It was gathered that the refund was made a few days after the board opened registration for intending pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj across the state.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the formal handover of the funds to the state government on Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, the Director-General of the board, Ahmad Labbo, disclosed that the board had refunded the full sum of N3.4 billion advanced by the state government for the 2026 Hajj operations without any deductions or interest.
He said the repayment reflects the board’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public funds and was made possible following the successful conclusion of the 2026 Hajj exercise and the commencement of preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage.
“The board has refunded the sum of N3.4 billion granted by the state government for the smooth conduct of the 2026 Hajj operations,” the director-general stated.
He explained that the refund was made in full without any deductions or interest, describing it as a clear demonstration of accountability.
“The exercise is a demonstration of transparency and prudent financial management in the handling of public funds,” Labbo said.
“His support ensured that we completed all necessary arrangements on schedule and guaranteed the participation of Jigawa pilgrims in the 2026 Hajj,” he added.
Labbo expressed appreciation to the governor for what he described as his unwavering support for the board and the welfare of pilgrims.
He said the board remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of financial discipline and transparency in its operations.
“We will continue to improve service delivery to intending pilgrims through efficient planning, timely execution of Hajj operations and prudent use of public resources,” the director-general stated.
He added that the state government has consistently provided financial and logistical support to the board in recent years.
He further stated that “the support has been widely credited with enhancing Hajj organisation and improving the welfare of pilgrims from Jigawa.”
