Leading Support Group Rallies Grassroots for Gov Mbah in Enugu North Zone

A leading political support group, the Progressive Movement for Peter Mbah, at the weekend held a mega rally in Enugu North Senatorial Zone, rallying grassroots support for Governor Peter Mbah and amplifying awareness of his administration’s developmental policies.

The group, described as a structured and data-driven initiative, said it was focused on deepening public engagement, promoting the governor’s performance, and consolidating support across communities ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The rally, which drew a large and enthusiastic crowd from the local government areas and wards across the zone, was held at Ugwuonye Primary School in Nsukka.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mbah described Enugu North as a zone dear to his heart, assuring the people of inclusive governance and sustained development.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Grand Patron of the group, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy, noting that the progress recorded within two years and eleven months signposts even greater outcomes in the years ahead.

“This government is a government of partnership. Enugu remains one indivisible entity. I thank you for coming out en masse to support our government, and we shall never let you down,” he said.

In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator of the group, Chikamso Onyeisi, described the governor as a blessing to the state, noting that Enugu North had witnessed tangible impact from his administration within a short period.

He added that the movement would continue to mobilise support at the grassroots and keep the people informed about government programmes and achievements.

“This is not just a support group but a people-oriented movement. Peter Mbah is a prayer answered for the people of Enugu North, and we will not let him down,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of local government chairmen in the zone, the host Chairman of Nsukka LGA, Hon. Jude Asogwa, said the governor’s performance across sectors would translate into overwhelming support in 2027.

He highlighted key interventions, including 102 Smart Green Schools, 102 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, and major road infrastructure such as the ongoing dualisation of the Abakpa–Ugwogo–Opi–Nsukka Road.

Also speaking on behalf of members of the State Executive Council from the zone, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, pointed to the administration’s investments in healthcare and education, noting that the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) was upgraded, with a new teaching hospital added as part of the upgrade.

He added that the establishment of oxygen production facilities in Nsukka and the rollout of modern healthcare centres had significantly improved access to quality healthcare within the zone.

The highlight of the rally was the distribution of POS machines to local government coordinators for onward empowerment of residents.

In attendance at the event were the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Osinachi Nnajieze; Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Nathaniel Urama; Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Ajogwu; Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Dr. Patrick Uburu; and Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Franklin Enyinaya Ogbonna.

Others were the Council Chairmen of Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani, and Igbo-Etiti Local Government Areas, Hon. Michael Ogalla, Hon. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, Hon. Chijioke Ezeugwu, and Dr. Eric Odo, respectively.

Also in attendance were the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, and many other traditional rulers from the zone; Chairman of the Enugu State Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Ekene Nnamani; Special Adviser on Financial Management, Prof. Obiamaka Egbo; her counterparts on Education, Special Duties, and Media, Dr. Chinyere Onyeisi, Dr. Mabel Agbo, and Onyekwere Nwobodo, respectively; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Revenue, Adenike Okebu; her counterparts on Projects and Youth Mobilisation, Arc. Winnie Ilo and Hon. Paul Ogbe; Special Assistant on Revenue Generation, Sandra George; and her counterparts on Youth Mobilisation, and Youth and Student Affairs, Hon. Fidelis Ojobo and Prisca Okeke; Enugu State Liaison Officer for the South-East Development Commission, Edeani M. Edeani, among others.
