Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has denied allegations circulating on social media that he ordered the denial of a private facility to a political party for its town hall meeting.
In a statement published on his social media page, Governor Mbah described the allegation as “preposterous and utter falsehood,” insisting that he did not issue such an order.
The governor accused the opposition of adopting what he called a desperate pattern of seeking public attention through the spread of false claims.
Mbah acknowledged that freedom of expression is guaranteed under democracy but warned that such freedom does not confer the right to defame individuals.
He also noted that democratic institutions provide avenues for seeking redress, stressing that there are limits that should not be crossed in political engagements.
The controversy follows the circulation of a video on some social media platforms alleging that the governor directed that a private facility should not be made available to a political party for its town hall event.
However, Mbah’s statement did not identify the political party involved or provide further details about the facility and the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
The governor’s denial comes amid political activities and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties and their supporters intensify public engagements across the country.
