Mbah Not Buying Endorsements, His Achievements Have Earned Him Support —Chime

Hon. Peter Chime, Senior Special Assistant to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah on Youth Development and Mobilisation, says the governor is not buying endorsements ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that his administration’s achievements have earned him widespread support from the people.

Chime stated this while speaking on E DON HAPPEN, a pidgin English discussion programme on Sunrise 96.1 FM, Enugu, monitored by EnuguDaily where he discussed the topic, “Governor Mbah’s Manifesto Scorecard, Gale of Endorsements and Other Political Developments.”

He maintained that the endorsements reflect public satisfaction with the governor’s performance rather than financial inducements.

According to him, the governor has not been soliciting endorsements, as the projects and policies implemented by his administration since assuming office in May 2023 have provided sufficient evidence of his performance.

“Governor Mbah is not begging for endorsement. The structure, what he has achieved in Enugu State, has endorsed him for the next four years,” Chime said, adding that the people were happy with the administration’s impact on their daily lives.

He cited the support expressed by youths and other groups across the state as evidence of growing confidence in the government, noting that the endorsements were accompanied by calls for Governor Mbah to continue in office beyond his first term.

Assessing the governor’s manifesto, Chime argued that the administration had made substantial progress in infrastructure, education, water supply, security and other sectors, claiming that some of the achievements had exceeded the expectations set out in the 2023 election campaign.

He highlighted the rehabilitation and construction of roads across the state, the completion of the International Conference Centre in Enugu and the restoration of the Presidential Hotel to functional use as examples of projects that had improved the state’s infrastructure and economic prospects.

On education, Chime praised the Smart Green Schools initiative, saying the facilities had improved the learning environment for children. He also pointed to the provision of school uniforms, books and meals as measures helping parents access better educational opportunities for their children.

The governor’s aide further cited improvements in public water supply and electricity in some communities, as well as developments in the aviation sector, arguing that the administration’s investments were intended to improve living conditions and expand economic opportunities for residents.

On the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, Chime said opposition parties should be prepared to present their records and policy proposals to the electorate rather than rely on allegations against the government.

He maintained that voters would assess candidates based on their performance and the evidence of what they had accomplished.

He also defended the administration’s approach to political participation, saying people should be free to organise political activities and express their opinions, while cautioning against actions capable of undermining peace in the state.

Addressing questions about the composition of the state’s campaign council, Chime said the administration was seeking to carry supporters along, explaining that the inclusion of names on campaign lists reflected the contributions and support of individuals to the government.

He urged residents to assess the administration based on projects and policies they could see and experience, describing the Mbah government as one that had created opportunities for people who previously had limited access to positions of responsibility.

Chime called on the people of Enugu State to sustain their support for the administration, expressing confidence that its achievements and political alliances would remain significant factors as the state approaches the 2027 general elections.
