Nepal’s prime minister has ordered an investigation into the protests over a social media ban during which at least 19 people were killed, with the apps now restored after the violence.
KP Sharma Oli, in a letter issued overnight, said he was “deeply saddened” by the deaths.
“The government was not in favour of stopping the use of social media and will ensure an environment for its use”, he wrote in a letter, adding that an “investigation committee will be formed to investigate and analyse” the protests.
