The Headquarters of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has dismissed social media reports alleging internal power tussles, welfare neglect and financial exploitation at the 90 Battalion in Koko, describing the claims as “malicious” and an attempt at blackmailing the institution.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Division said the publication circulating online was “unsubstantiated falsehood” propagated by individuals seeking to smear the command structure of the Battalion.
Danjuma clarified that postings and deployments within the Nigerian Army remain routine administrative exercises, devoid of religious, ethnic or loyalty-based considerations as suggested in the allegations.
He described the claims that soldiers were assigned duties based on such factors as “unfounded, malicious and a desperate attempt at institutional and command blackmail.”
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to professionalism, he stated that the institution maintains zero tolerance for corruption, welfare abuse, religious bias and any form of misconduct within its ranks.
He added that the Commanding Officer of 90 Battalion has continued to discharge his responsibilities diligently and within available resources.
The statement further noted that there are well-established channels for lodging and resolving administrative complaints at every level of the Nigerian Army, including at battalion formations.
Personnel who resort to alternative means, the Division warned, may be considered as attempting to blackmail the institution.
Lt. Col. Danjuma assured the public that any credible reports of wrongdoing — particularly those related to extortion — would be thoroughly investigated.
He urged residents of the Niger Delta Region to disregard the circulating allegations and remain confident in the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring regional security.
The statement concluded with a reassurance that the 6 Division remains focused on maintaining peace and stability across its areas of responsibility.
