….. Calls for Urgent Action on Security
The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a rising star in Nigerian journalism and anchor with Arise News, who was killed during a robbery attack in Abuja.
In a heartfelt condolence message on Monday, Obi described the 29-year-old broadcaster and trained lawyer as a “brilliant and gifted professional” whose voice “engaged, informed, and inspired many.” He lamented that her untimely death is not only a personal tragedy to her family and colleagues but also a huge loss to Nigerian journalism and the nation at large.
“This heartbreaking incident once again highlights the urgent need for us as a country to prioritise the safety and security of every citizen,” Obi said. “No Nigerian should go to bed fearful of what the night may bring, or lose their life in such senseless ways.”
The former Anambra State governor extended his condolences to Maduagwu’s grieving family, the Arise News team, and all who mourn her passing, praying for the repose of her soul.
Obi also used the occasion to renew his call for stronger measures to protect lives across the country, stressing that Nigeria must work harder to build a nation where “lives are valued and protected.”
