The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with a successful raid on suspected hideouts in the New Artisan area of Enugu.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in the early hours of April 5, 2026, was based on actionable intelligence. During the raid, a 29-year-old suspect, Francisco Olugba, was arrested.
Items recovered from the suspect include quantities of suspected cannabis, bags of clothing believed to have been stolen, eleven SIM cards from different network providers, a pair of scissors, and other exhibits.
Police operatives also dismantled several drug peddling and consumption hubs in the area, destroying makeshift structures commonly referred to as “bunks,” which were allegedly used for illicit activities.
Authorities say the operation is part of ongoing proactive policing efforts aimed at curbing crime and maintaining public safety across the state.
Investigations are currently underway to apprehend other suspected members of the criminal network and to determine the full scope of their operations.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining strategies that enhance security and protect residents.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, said the command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
