Residents of Enugu State may continue to experience reduced electricity supply following a decline in power generation that has prompted the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ration available energy.
Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL), in a public notice on Monday, said the reduction in generation had caused low system frequency, necessitating load shedding by TCN.
The electricity distribution company explained that the development had reduced its energy allocation, affecting its capacity to meet daily electricity supply commitments to customers.
MEDL’s Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh, who signed the notice, said the company was closely monitoring the situation and would distribute the available electricity fairly across its network.
The company, however, did not provide a specific timeline for the restoration of normal supply, expressing only the hope that the situation would improve soon.
MEDL apologised to customers for the disruption and appealed for their patience and understanding, as households and businesses across the state contend with the reduced availability of electricity.
The latest notice comes amid concerns over the reliability of electricity supply, with MEDL attributing the current situation to constraints in generation and transmission rather than a specific fault within its distribution network.
