……CHARTS COURSE FOR PARTY REVIVAL
The South East leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its determination to rebuild and reposition the party in Enugu State in the wake of recent political developments.
This commitment was reaffirmed during a strategic meeting between members of the South East PDP Special Committee on Enugu Affairs and the Enugu State Working Committee, led by the Acting State Chairman, Barr. Steve Oruruo. The engagement, held in Enugu, focused on reconciliation, the revitalization of party structures, and renewed grassroots mobilization across the state’s 17 local government areas.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Special Committee and South East Secretary of the PDP, Chief James Ugwu, described the interaction as a rallying point for unity and renewed strength within the party.
According to him, despite recent political shifts, the PDP remains deeply rooted in Enugu’s political landscape.
“We are not discouraged. This is a time for rebuilding, reconciliation, and strategic engagement,” Ugwu said. “We are mobilizing from the grassroots, reaching out to stakeholders, and realigning the party to truly reflect the will and aspirations of the people.”
He noted that the PDP’s long history and achievements in Enugu provide a strong foundation for its resurgence, assuring members that the party structure remains intact and resilient.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Special Committee and South East Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Engr. Sir Chigozie Igwe, said the meeting marked a critical step toward repositioning the PDP and reclaiming its dominance in Enugu politics.
While acknowledging that Governor Peter Mbah’s recent exit from the PDP was unexpected, Igwe maintained that the party remains undeterred and focused on renewal.
“The PDP has been the cornerstone of Enugu’s political stability since 1999,” he said. “We are confident that our values, structures, and people-centered ideology will guide us back to victory.”
In his remarks, Enugu State Acting PDP Chairman, Barr. Steve Oruruo, commended the South East leadership for its steadfastness and reaffirmed his commitment to the collective revival of the party.
“We will not be distracted by political developments around us,” Oruruo stated. “Our focus is on rebuilding confidence and restoring the people’s trust in the PDP. Our party remains the people’s choice — a platform built on service, accountability, and development. We will work tirelessly to reclaim our mandate and reassert PDP’s leadership in Enugu State.”
The South East PDP Special Committee on Enugu Affairs has been mandated to drive reconciliation, strengthen local party structures, and prepare the PDP for future elections.
Engr. Igwe further emphasized that the committee’s mission is to foster unity, bridge internal divides, and rebuild strong grassroots networks that will sustain the party’s influence.
“We are building a movement that transcends individuals — one that embodies the collective aspirations of the people of Enugu,” he added.
The South East PDP leadership expressed confidence in the national leadership of the party and optimism that, through unity and strategic engagement, the PDP will reclaim Enugu’s Lion Building and restore its legacy of responsive governance.
