Super Falcons’ bonuses paid, houses, $100K reward underway, Olopade confirms

The National Sports Commission has put an end to rumors regarding unpaid bonuses for the Super Falcons, stating that all outstanding payments were settled before the team’s final match against Morocco.

NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, confirmed this information during an appearance on Arise TV on Friday.

Olopade said, “I can confirm authoritatively that all their bonuses have been paid, I spoke with Ajibade yesterday and with the NFF and everybody is on the same page.”

However, it appears there might be some discrepancy, as Olopade mentioned that maybe one or two players might not have collected their bonuses due to bank issues with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

But he assured that the promise made by the President would be fulfilled, saying

“On the promise of Mr. President, I can assure you that it will be paid.”

According to him, the NSC is working with the Minister of Works and Housing to ensure the team receives their houses as promised.

“The NSC is in contact with the Minister of Works and Housing and with the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative to ensure that they receive their houses in record time”, he said.

Olopade emphasised that the NSC prioritizes the remuneration and welfare of athletes.

“The NSC doesn’t play with the remuneration and welfare of athletes,” he said, assuring that all issues would be resolved soon.

The NSC DG’s response directly addressed Rasheedat Ajibade’s concerns, providing clarification on the $100,000 reward for the Super Falcons’ 2024 WAFCON victory.

In a recent interview, Ajibade had said, ”We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid, all the promises, we have not received anything.”

She also mentioned that their match bonuses are still being processed, saying, “Even our match bonuses and everything are all still work in progress.”
