The Assemblies of God Nigeria has condemned a violent attack on a Senior Pastor and his family at one of its churches in Ughelli, describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable.
In a press statement issued by its leadership, and obtained by EnuguDaily, the Church said the attack, which occurred on April 12, 2026, was carried out by individuals wearing uniforms associated with the Royal Rangers.
The incident reportedly left the victims with injuries and emotional trauma.
The Church emphasized that true members of the Royal Rangers are “saved, born-again” Christians who uphold the values and discipline of the Church.
It stressed that the group is non-combatant, does not bear arms, and is strictly prohibited from engaging in violence or taking the law into their own hands.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the leadership of the Royal Rangers at all levels neither had prior knowledge of nor authorized the attack carried out in official uniform.
The Church confirmed that the matter has been reported to law enforcement agencies, which have commenced a full investigation to identify those responsible and determine how they came to wear the uniforms.
In addition, an internal inquiry has been initiated to uncover both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident.
Assuring members and the public of its commitment to justice, the Church stated that anyone found culpable would be held accountable, regardless of status.
It added that District and General Council leaders are actively overseeing the situation to ensure a proper resolution through established spiritual and administrative processes.
While describing the issue as a “family matter,” the Church urged the public to avoid speculation or sensational reporting, calling instead for prayers and unity as due process takes its course.
The Assemblies of God Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining godliness, order, and the integrity of its collective witness.
