….AS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN CHIEF NNAJI PROMISES UNITY AND PEACE The Enugu State Government has inaugurated a six-man Caretaker Committee for Amugo Autonomous Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area, following the expiration of the tenure of the former Town Union executives.
The committee, inaugurated by the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo was in accordance with the powers vested in the Commissioner under Section 26 of the Fund for Rural Development Law of Enugu State, Cap 82.
According to the Commissioner, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Town Unions, Mrs Queendalyn Odike, the move aligns with the State Government’s commitment to fostering peaceful, stable, and progressive communities capable of aligning with the state’s broader development agenda.
Appointed into the caretaker committee are Chief Ifeany Nnaji – Chairman, Elder John Nnaji – Vice Chairman, Chief Sunday Aniodo – Secretary, as well as Mr. Chikezie Nnaji, Mr. Gregory Okey Ogbodo and Pastor Patrick Nwobodo as members.
The commissioner said the committee members were carefully selected based on their integrity, antecedents, and proven dedication to the community’s wellbeing. The committee was assigned a set of Terms of Reference to guide its operations over its 12-month tenure, which runs from September 10, 2025, to September 10, 2026. Their responsibilities include auditing the accounts of the autonomous community, restoring peace and ensuring the withdrawal of all pending court cases, conducting an all-inclusive Town Union election in accordance with the existing constitution, and initiating the process for filling the vacant Traditional Ruler stool.
Additionally, the committee is mandated to submit quarterly reports on its activities to the Commissioner.
The newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee for the Amugo Autonomous Community Town Union pledged to restore peace, strengthen unity, and reposition the community for progress.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration at the Enugu State Ministry of Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Chief Ifeanyi Nnaji expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Enugu State for facilitating the process that led to the appointment of what he described as a “seasoned crop of individuals” into the committee. Chief Nnaji, said the day marked “a very beautiful and significant moment” in the history of Amugo community.
He commended the Commissioner for Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters for what he called a thorough and commendable selection exercise.
According to him, the new caretaker committee is a formidable team capable of changing the trajectory of governance and community development in Amugo.
He assured that the committee would strictly adhere to the Terms of Reference issued to them, with unity and peaceful coexistence as their top priorities.
He noted that the absence of peace in recent years had hindered the progress of the community and contributed to the inability to maintain a stable, substantive Town Union executive.
The last executive, he recalled, lasted barely four years before internal challenges stalled further progress.
“There cannot be progress anywhere there is no peace. Peace has been elusive in my community, but that is exactly what we are determined to achieve,” he said.
Chief Nnaji added that the one-year mandate given to the committee has already commenced, and he pledged to work harmoniously with the other members, ensure inclusive leadership, and take decisions collectively for the good of the entire community.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to carrying everyone along and rebuilding trust among stakeholders, stressing that unity remains the foundation for sustainable development in Amugo.
The state government’s intervention, he said, has given the community renewed hope for stability and progress.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and promote unity across rural communities in Enugu State.
