The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has said Nigeria has all the human and natural resources required to become a prosperous, secure, and globally competitive nation if it is led with competence, accountability, and compassion.
Obi made the remark while speaking at a high-level roundtable on “Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond”, organised by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Berlin, Germany.
According to him, Nigeria’s progress depends on leadership that prioritises investment in people, education, healthcare, productive enterprise, the rule of law, and strong institutions rather than what he described as politics of consumption.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that the country’s future would only be secured through deliberate policy choices capable of transforming the economy from one driven by consumption to one anchored on production, while also moving the nation from poverty to prosperity and from division to unity.
Obi maintained that embracing good governance, fiscal responsibility, and productive partnerships with the international community would help build an inclusive economy that works for all Nigerians and restore the country’s standing in the global community.
He expressed appreciation to the European Council on Foreign Relations for the invitation and thanked participants at the roundtable for what he described as a frank, engaging, and constructive exchange of ideas.
Obi noted that such engagements are essential for promoting mutual understanding, strengthening international cooperation, and fostering enduring partnerships that will benefit Nigeria, Africa, and the wider global community.
