Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has presented his administration’s stewardship report, highlighting progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, aviation and tourism since assuming office in May 2023.
Speaking at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, during a presentation titled “Our Commitment to Ndi Enugu: The Journey So Far,” Governor Mbah said his administration was focused on transforming the state’s economy, improving public services and creating opportunities for residents.
The governor said the administration had restored normal economic activities on Mondays, constructed more than 1,500 kilometres of roads, introduced compressed natural gas buses and developed transport terminals.
He also disclosed that the state’s daily air traffic had increased from about two aircraft to approximately 15, attributing the development to efforts to improve connectivity through Enugu Air.
On education and healthcare, Mbah highlighted the development of Smart Green Schools and the construction of 260 Type-II primary healthcare centres across the state.
He said his administration had also approved the recruitment of 2,250 healthcare personnel to strengthen service delivery, alongside investments in secondary hospitals and electronic medical records.
The governor further outlined agricultural and industrial initiatives, including public-private partnerships to revive dormant agricultural assets, expand cassava processing and develop large-scale livestock production.
He also announced plans for a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant, which he said was intended to support industrialisation and improve electricity supply.
On tourism and employment, Mbah said the state was developing several tourism destinations and expanding hotel infrastructure to attract visitors and investors.
He also disclosed an agreement aimed at providing digital literacy and business process outsourcing opportunities for 2,250 young people in Enugu State.
The governor, however, acknowledged that some residents were still waiting for projects to be completed and facilities to become fully operational.
He said the next phase of his administration’s work would focus on ensuring that completed projects function effectively and that their benefits reach communities across the state.
Mbah reiterated his administration’s ambition to grow Enugu’s economy from approximately 4.4 billion dollars to at least 30 billion dollars within eight years, while pursuing poverty reduction, job creation and sustainable development.
He called for greater citizen participation in governance, urging residents to demand accountability, contribute ideas and support development efforts in their communities.
The governor maintained that achieving the state’s long-term goals would require sustained collaboration among government, investors, businesses and the people.
