Police arrest 60-year-old man for defiling minor in Bauchi

The officers of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 60-year-old man, Musa Garba, for the alleged defilement of a nine-year-old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

According to the statement, the case was reported at the Toro Divisional Police Headquarters on Friday by the father of the victim.

Habib said the complainant, aged 47, alleged that his daughter was lured into a hideout by the suspect on May 7, 2026, at about 4pm.

“The report was received at the Toro Division on 8th May 2026. The father of the victim reported that his daughter was lured into a hideout on 7th May 2026 at about 1600hrs by one Musa Garba, also of the same address,” the statement read.

He added that detectives attached to the division swiftly arrested the suspect following the complaint.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the offence during interrogation and further admitted to allegedly committing similar acts against the victim on several occasions at different locations.

Habib explained that both the victim and the suspect were taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment.

He further stated that during the course of investigation, the victim alleged that another suspect identified only as Nafi’u, whose surname is yet to be ascertained, was involved in a separate incident concerning her and is currently at large.

“The arrested suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” he said.

The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act and reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance against crimes involving children and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

Aliyu also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“The Command assures the public that justice will be pursued diligently and in line with due process,” the statement added.

Recall that in Friday, operatives of Special Area Rumudomaya police attached to the Rivers Police State Command have arrested a man simply identified as Mr Goodnews for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter.

The incident occurred on Monday, May 4, 2026, when the suspect, who resides in the same compound as the teenager, under the guise of sending her on an errand, tricked the girl into his apartment and had carnal knowledge of her.
