Police arrest six suspects over attack on officers in Benue

The Nigeria Police Force said six suspects have been detained as part of an ongoing police response operation in Benue State after a deadly attack on Police Tactical Teams at the Agu Centre in the Katsina-Ala/Ukum area.

The assault was carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias, the Force said in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on Sunday.

“The attack, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, resulted in the death of three police officers, while seven others are still missing.

“The arrested suspects are in custody and assisting with useful information. Equally, the IGP has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area and assured that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State,” the statement read.

Hundeyin said Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Emenari, is leading the on-ground operation to rescue missing officers and track down fleeing suspects.

He added that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemned the attack as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”

“The IGP has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area and assured that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State,” the PPRO added.

The Police appealed to residents to remain calm and to support security agencies while operations continue.
