Electricity supply across Ebonyi State has declined following a nationwide reduction in power generation, according to a statement released by Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited.
The company attributed the situation primarily to limited gas supply to thermal power plants, which has significantly reduced the volume of electricity available on Nigeria’s national grid.
As a result, power allocation to distribution companies, including EEDL, has dropped, affecting the amount of electricity available for distribution to customers in the state.
The statement further revealed that the Nigerian Independent System Operator has introduced controlled load shedding measures to stabilize the grid and prevent a potential system collapse.
It said this approach involves rationing the limited electricity supply across different locations.
EEDL emphasized that the current situation is not caused by the company but is part of a broader industry challenge impacting power supply nationwide.
The distribution company assured customers that it is closely monitoring developments and will continue to distribute the available electricity as efficiently and fairly as possible.
EEDL also appealed to residents for patience, understanding, and cooperation as efforts continue to address the situation.
The statement was signed by the company’s management and dated March 23, 2026.
